The biography of Anglo-Irish engineer and first architect of early South Australia proves (controversially) that he chose the site for Adelaide and laid it out. Kingston then gave the capital its first solid buildings, attaching the settlers to their chosen place. Long political and commercial careers and his work in photos and drawings are well-documented. Appendices cover all his commissions, colleagues and the texts he used.
